Trucks are the dominant mode of surface transportation in the region, with a considerable presence in all logistics chains. Though there are no statistics at the continental level, data from some countries shows that trucking accounts for more than 80% of the total volume transported internally. Recently, trucking services have increased their incidence in international trade.

The expansion of modern freight logistics (which fuel the transportation of small consignments, just in time, with flexibility), a greater productive diversification and a growing territorial integration indicate that, far from weakening, the participation of trucking services will continue to grow. Despite its importance, knowledge about its performance is scarce.

The Regional Observatory studies trucking services in various countries of the region. The objective is to reach a diagnosis based on quantitative and qualitative indicators, which allows for recommendations adapted to the challenges of different market segments and for the development of specific public policies.
